Terminology Exchange Service

- OR -

The Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL) eCR team offers the Terminology Exchange Service (TES) to reduce the burden of terminology management for electronic case reporting (eCR) among public health agencies (PHAs). The TES provides centralized, condition-associated codes through a searchable user interface and an application programming interface (API). These codes are curated from the Reportable Conditions Knowledge Management System (RCKMS) value sets and the Electronic Reporting and Surveillance Distribution (eRSD) system.
Benefits of the TES
  • Streamlines vocabulary management and reduces duplication efforts across PHAs providing relevant, curated, and centralized codes.
  • Helps identify and contextualize conditions through curated value sets to ensure data are useful and actionable for public health.
  • Provides narrative description look-ups for value sets captured within the tool.
  • Informs users of content and value set updates.
How to use the TES Register and sign-in above to search the web application. Users can also tailor TES content for integration within PHA surveillance system infrastructure in two ways:
  1. via the API, and
  2. with the eCR Document Splitter and Filter tool
Expanding functionalityThe TES is continually evolving, and new features will be added over time. Please check back regularly for updates and enhanced functionality. PHAs will be notified as more data sources are introduced and functionality expanded. The TES can also be integrated with version 3 of the Electronic Message Staging Area (EMSA3) once it is released.
